Renewable cooling

Cooling refers to heat extracted from buildings by air conditioning systems and other cooling systems. According to the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED II), in force from reporting year 2021, cooling may in part be counted as renewable energy. The more efficient the cooling system, the greater the share of cooling provided that counts as renewable.

Because the calculation method prescribed is very complex, not all forms of cooling can yet be included. Also see: Renewable cooling according to the European Renewable Energy Directive
